Use a pinned post to orient new visitors
Use a pinned post as an orientation point, not as a permanent place for an expired announcement.

A new visitor may arrive at a profile through a single shared post with little context. A pinned item can explain what the account covers, where to find current information and how to contact the organisation. Its value comes from answering the newcomer's questions, not from preserving the team's favourite campaign at the top.
Choose the question that keeps recurring
Consider what visitors most often need: the service area, the purpose of the account, a current booking route or an explanation of a recent change. A hypothetical community workshop might use a pinned post to show how its sessions work and where the current schedule lives. That is more durable than pinning one session's promotional graphic indefinitely.
Keep the opening descriptive. Say what the account provides and who the information is for, without a long introduction or unsupported claim of being the leading source. Include a clear route to fuller details. The post should orient people, not attempt to replace every page on the website.
Distinguish stable information from temporary notices
An urgent service update may deserve prominent placement, but it needs a review trigger. Mark dates clearly and replace or unpin it when it no longer helps. A visitor who sees an old disruption notice may conclude the service is still unavailable. The prominence that made the notice useful can later make it misleading.
Check the destination linked from the post. A profile introduction promising a current schedule should not lead to a homepage where the schedule is difficult to find. If the destination changes, review the pinned text as well as the link. Saved or shared versions may still circulate, so avoid wording that depends entirely on ‘today’ or ‘this week’.
Use the platform's available pinning features according to their current behaviour, but do not assume visitors will always see the item first. Important contact and website details should also remain accurate in the profile itself. The pinned post is an additional route, not the sole repository of essential information.
Review it as a stranger would: does it explain the account without prior knowledge, and is the next step obvious? If the answer requires reading several older posts, simplify the orientation. A useful pinned post reduces the effort of joining the conversation.
